Marinière

The wasted of all days is one without laughter.

Last Saturday I immersed myself in the world of Chanel, peeking through the veil of iconic past via monochrome photographs and dreaming of the earliest collections of Mademoiselle Coco's gorgeous creations. Utterly mesmerized by her revolutionary, chic yet functional designs, I felt the urge to step out embracing my inner Coco Mademoiselle, so I put together this cute nautical ensemble, sporting a sea-breezy marinière! I got mine at Whistles and paired it with a cute grand-pleated skirt for that cool preppy look, and kept the colours in a spring appropriate nautical theme, with present French minimalism.

Whether you call it marinière, Breton top or simply тельняшка (pronounced as tel'nyashka in Russian), it's one of the classics we all have come to adore throughout the years. It was first introduced into fashion society by none other than Mademoiselle Coco Chanel herself! Her iconic Navy cruise collection was born out of inspiration from the coastal sailors' uniforms she saw on one of her riviera holidays, and was a tremendous success among the fashion-savvy ladies of the bourgeois world of that era, and is still continuing to stay on the frontier of the spring/summer fashion to this very day!

So influenced by nostalgia for that infinitely beautiful time, I have created a board with the coolest Breton tops for you, my beautiful friends! Stripy blues, reds and yellows here are ranging from the top-end designer editions to the more affordable but equally stunning labels! Let me know which one's your favorite! Enjoy! XO
